We are often asked whether our Waldschlösschen has always been a restaurant. Therefore, we have prepared the most important and exciting backgrounds of the house for you here. And so much in advance: Our Waldschlösschen was not always the restaurant you know today.
First Mention in the Cadastre
Our Waldschlösschen is mentioned for the first time in 1905/06 and is colloquially referred to as "Königsruine". The builder of this house was Karl Weyand.
Girls' Boarding School for Home Economics
Christine Scherer, co-owner of the house and wife of Karl Weyand, operated a girls' boarding school for home economics in the house after the end of World War I until about 1930.
Café and Restaurant
The Weyand couple sold the house in 1930 to the whitewasher Konrad Schmidt and his wife. The Schmidts initially ran a café in the house and later also a restaurant. After a long dispute with the authorities, they were granted permission to serve beer and other alcoholic beverages. They named their establishment "Waldschlösschen" in reference to the restaurant in Mrs. Schmidt's parental home.
Hosts in the Waldschlösschen
In 1964, the house was sold to Reinhard Schmidt, who had learned from spice representatives about the possibility of leasing and subsequently buying the restaurant "Zum Waldschlösschen" in Dagobertshausen. Gudrun Schwarz, the daughter of Reinhard Schmidt, took over the property after his death.
Many Tenants
After the Schmidt family no longer operated the restaurant themselves after 1976, the establishment was leased. The tenants changed frequently thereafter.
Store for Interior Decoration Items
In 2007, Mrs. Schwarz sold the house to Mrs. Spörck, who operated a store for interior decoration items and home decor for five years.
Takeover by the Pohl Family
The Pohl family takes over the operation of our Waldschlösschen, and our restaurant manager Stefan Cabras and his team have been delighting you with refined, seasonal dishes since then.
